Canadian Dog Owners
I have been a supporter of Purina and their Second Nature dog litter brand from day one when I got my current two Lhasa Apso dogs five years ago. However, like other Canadian dog owners who may have discovered commercial dog litter products, I have to go down across the border to the US in order to get my supply of either Second Nature or its competing brand by Petco. In my mind, these two brands are much better than the Puppy Go Potty brand that is already available here in Canada
Because of the limited supply of Second Nature I can get since I’m one and a half hours from the US border, I often have to combine it with Purina Yesterday’s News which is a similar product targeted for cat owners. While Yesterday’s News is a good product, the pellets are much smaller than those of Second Nature so I find that there is too much tracking when my two dogs step out of their dog litter box.
So far, we have seen some of the manufacturers of similar indoor dog potty devices introduced here in Canadian pet stores. This is a smart move since the whole concept of indoor potty training for dogs whether using dog litter or other indoor potty devices, is perfect for the Canadian market.
Canada does have very cold winters with lots of snow. Many major cities like the greater Toronto area have seen a huge increase in the number of highrise condominium developments. So with abundant supplies of apartment buildings and the cold winters, dog litter box systems would be perfect up here.
Purina And Others Have Not Committed To Canada Yet
So far, Purina and others who make dog litter (with the exception of small makers) have not committed to Canada yet and I really feel that they are missing a great opportunity. The concept of potty training dogs to use a dog litter box especially during our freezing winters would be welcomed with much enthusiasm but the awareness of this option is still very low here among Canadian dog owners.
I’ve been training all of my dogs to go indoors since 1979 so I know this system works well and I would highly endorse it here. The video of my dogs using their dog litter box is proof. This is one of the reasons why I wrote my book ‘Potty Train Your Puppy With A Litter Box – Convenient House Training Indoors For Dogs‘ in the first place – to increase awareness and help out my fellow dog owners who might not otherwise know about this option.
