The Puppy Kennel
Many dog owners will eventually have to travel and in many cases, they won’t be able to take their dogs with them on their trips. These could be business trips or vacations somewhere where they will be flying to their destinations. If they can’t get friends or relatives to look after their dogs (or hire a pet sitter), then a puppy kennel will have to be used.
This is not as bad as it sounds as I have used the puppy kennel a lot in the past for all of my dogs when I had to travel. There are usually many dogs there so they won’t necessarily be alone. I would still use a puppy kennel for my own dogs if I can’t get a pet sitter for a trip.

However, in my experience, not all facilities are the same. Don’t just book your dog into the closest or least expensive puppy kennel in your area without visiting it first. Always make a visit and insist on taking a look at the actual puppy kennel area, not just the reception or outside. The puppy kennel area is usually behind closed doors from the reception area and they might not automatically give you a tour unless you request one.
You want to see where your dog will be spending its time there and you want to make sure that it is safe and clean. You also want to get a good feeling for the setup. I’ve been to some facilities that just didn’t jive with me for some reason. Personally, I don’t like the puppy kennel places that are not connected to an outdoor run of some type. To me, the facilities without a direct connection to an outdoor area for the dogs is not better than some cage. And I don’t want to have my dogs in some cage for a week.
Many puppy kennel facilities will have it set up so that dogs can choose to go outside to an outside run and back inside whenever they want or at least quite frequently if the weather is warm. This is one of the criteria I look for in a puppy kennel.
So do your research before booking a puppy kennel where your beloved dog will be spending time while you are away.
