Example Of The Benefits Of Having Dogs Litterbox Trained

Yesterday was a great example of the benefits of having dogs litterboxed trained rather than traditionally trained to go only outdoors for elimination.  I left my house at mid-afternoon to beat the rush hour traffic (was not entirely successful as traffic was still quite heavy) to get to the opposite side of town to do a motivational talk at a Rotary club.

After my talk, I went to have dinner at a long time friend’s place which was near that part of town.  Since we haven’t seen each other for so long, there was a lot of catching up to do and it was the first time I met his entire family.  So needless to say, I didn’t end up getting home until about 10:30 pm.

My friend was wondering if my dogs were going to make a mess if kept indoors all this time.  I told him that there was nothing to worry about since both of my dogs are completely litterbox trained.  He had never heard of this before and was quite surprised.

When I got home, sure my dogs were a bit hungry but that’s okay.  A late dinner is never too much of a problem for them.  Best of all, they didn’t mess up my house since being litterboxed trained dogs, they simply use the box whenever they need to.

I just went into the dog room and cleaned up whatever was in the litterbox.  Simple and no mess.  That’s an example of the great benefits of training your dog to use a litterbox.  No need to rush home just to let your dog out for elimination.  No need to have your dog hold everything in for hours at a time.

I have a neat video which shows my two dogs using their litterbox.  I am currently working on a project to teach new dog owners how to train their dogs this way.

Too Hot To Take Dogs Outside During Midday

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

It’s just way too hot outside during midday summer to take my two Lhasa Apso dogs outside.  As soon as they go outside after several minutes, they are panting.  So we will stay cool indoors until about late in the day when the sunshine is not as intense.

Just as well since I do want to take them down to the lakefront but during weekend days, it’s just too busy down there.  So going late in the day will be better from a crowds aspect as well.

In the meantime, I’ve begun work on my next book which will be on potty training your dog with a litterbox.  The start on this project was long overdue but my work as a diversity speaker and Canadian motivational speaker in the last few months has been busy.  But the summer months of July and August will be relatively quiet on the speaking front so I will have more time to work on my new book.

I’ve written about half of the new book so far and lots of more work will have to go into it since it will be quite photo intensive as well in order to show the exact steps I use to housetrain my own dogs to use a litterbox.

So stay tuned for updates.  Meanwhile, enjoy the beginning of your summer with your dogs but be careful that they don’t heat up.

Mix Of Second Nature and Yesterday’s News For Dog Litter

Monday, April 12th, 2010

Since Purina Second Nature is not available in Canada, I’m now using a mix of Purina Yesterday’s News and Second Nature for the dog litter at home.  This combination is working well since Second Nature and Yesterday’s News are made of the same thing, ie., recycled newsprint.  Both are very absorbent.

The way I’ve been combining these two products is to use Yesterday’s News on the bottom with a layer of Second Nature on the top.  This is because the pellets of Second Nature are much larger and heavier than Yesterday’s News.  This will help lower the amount of tracking when my dogs jump out of the litter box.  Of course, there still is some tracking but less compared to having Yesterday’s News as the top layer.  The larger Second Nature pellets seem to keep the smaller Yesterday’s News pellets in the box.

I’m traveling in the US this week for a short trip so I’ll stock up on some Second Nature to bring back to Canada since it really is the better dog litter for our use with dogs.

Good Morning From Litterbox Trained Lhasa Apso Dogs

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

I had previously mentioned that my lhasa apso dog Chester is usually one of the first things I see when I wake up each morning.  I finally got this captured on video one morning this week.

Actually, since both he and his sister Roxie are completely litterbox trained, Chester will often wake up and go to ‘his bathroom’ (the litterbox is located in another bathroom on my second floor) do relieve himself before coming back to the bedroom to see if I’m awake yet.

This is so convenient, I don’t have to get up to let him out first thing in the morning like most other dog owners do. Quite often, I’m still asleep and it’s not a problem at all.  More on how I trained him and his sister in the future.

For now, enjoy this short video.  You can probably now understand why I think that when I wake up to my dogs each morning like this, I just know that it’s going to be a GREAT day no matter what.

Will Develop Video Plan To Feature My Dogs

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

I’m going to develop my video plan today to shoot various footage featuring my dogs Roxie and Chester. These will hopefully be used as training educational videos for all dog owners to see so they can use for their own dogs. I’m planning to show how my dogs get their teeth brushed as well as how they use their litterbox potty training skills. I’ll come up with the best skills I’ve taught them and capture them on video if I think they will benefit other current and potential dog owners. Stay tuned for further developments.
